Use PenLayer offline

PenLayer draws with Wi-Fi off. It checks your licence now and then, and never locks you out because the network is down.

PenLayer works without an internet connection. Once your licence is activated, you can draw with Wi-Fi off for as long as you like.

When PenLayer goes online

The app connects for two things only:

Licence checks. When you activate, and occasionally afterwards, it confirms your licence is still valid. It sends your licence key and your Mac’s name, nothing else.
Update checks, unless you’ve turned automatic updates off. See Automatic updates.

It never sends your drawings or anything about how you use it. See the privacy policy.

PenLayer starts and draws using the last licence answer it saved. It doesn’t wait for the network.
The background licence check runs at most about once a day. If it can’t reach the server, PenLayer keeps the saved answer and tries again later.
A network problem, a slow server or a captive Wi-Fi page never locks you out.

Lifetime licences keep working offline for good.
Annual licences keep working offline until the end of the paid year. After that date, PenLayer needs to reach the licence server to confirm the renewal.

A licence only ends if the server clearly says so, for example after a refund or when an Annual plan wasn’t renewed.

Activating a licence and deactivating a Mac both need to reach the licence server.
