Automatic updates

PenLayer keeps itself up to date. It checks for new versions in the background, downloads them, and installs the update the next time you quit the app. It never interrupts you while you’re drawing.

How it works

• PenLayer checks shortly after it opens, then every few hours while it’s running.
• If there’s a new version, it downloads in the background.
• The update is installed when you quit PenLayer, so the next launch runs the new version.
• If a check or download fails, for example because you’re offline, PenLayer tries again next time. You won’t see an error.

Update checks don’t send your licence key. Both plans include updates: Annual includes every update while the plan is active, and Lifetime includes every future update.

Turn automatic updates off

1. Click the pen in the menu bar and choose Preferences…
2. Turn off Update automatically.

With it off, PenLayer makes no update requests at all. It’s on by default.

To update by hand, download the latest version from the download page and drag it into Applications, replacing the old copy.
